NYS Standards and Resource Guides

A few effortless clicks of your mouse can bring simplicity into your life! We have tried to organize the data with you, the teacher, in mind. You now have the ability to "drill down" through the subject matter, grade level and key idea!

Use the Search Standards link to:

  • Search for performance indicators by keyword
  • Compare performance indicators in various Standard areas

Use the specific Learning Standard link to view performance indicators in particular Levels by first selecting a specific Standard area (i.e. MST), then a standard number (4, Science), and then a specific Standard Level (Intermediate). This will display of list of all (Physical Setting and Living Environment) performance indicators for that level.

As we learn more about how you would like to use this application, we will revise, rebuild and add new functionality. So, keep checking back! We're sure you will see the standards in a new light!

NYS Resource Guides are documents focusing on curriculum essentials, student learning experiences, and sample assessment models. These guides were developed to go hand in hand with the Learning Standards. Resource Guides go beyond the Learning Standards by helping teachers find additional support for their planning.

Performance Indicators
What Are They?

Performance Indicators are located in the Learning Standards. These indicators note the required expectations for students at the elementary, intermediate, and commencement levels. For example, one performance indicator suggests that elementary students must be able to select information appropriate to their investigations and relate ideas from one text to another. In other words, the indicators specifically point out what students should know and be able to do.

Performance Indicators incorporate five dimensions of growth:

  • range (breadth and depth of texts, topics, etc.)
  • flexibility (performance in changing and varied conditions)
  • connections (ability to see commonalities between ideas, texts, contexts)
  • conventions (rules, protocols, traditional practices)
  • independence (ability to perform without models or direction)
